Courses for Conscious Therapists

Treating the
Anterior Thorax and Breast Massage Course

Massage and Myofascial training with a Somatic and Trauma-informed approach for hands on practitioners.

Learn to use Myofascial and Massage Techniques to improve your Client Outcomes.

Treating the anterior ribcage with competency, confidence and professionalism is something that can be incorporated into treatment plans for clients when indicated. As Hands On Therapists, we have the possibility to bring awareness and connection to this sensitive area of the body for many people. It is common for emotional and physical trauma, anxiety and shame to get stored in this area of the body especially, and it is necessary to become aware of and have tools for working with this as health professionals.

Myofascial release is a way of connecting to the body in a profound way.

When we are comfortable in working with the breasts and anterior ribcage, we offer clients the possibility to become connected to this area of their body also. Having the knowledge and awareness of different gender issues, surgeries, pre and post partum changes and scar work will greatly enhance the effectiveness of your treatments in general.

Fascial Touch allows us to recognize holding patterns

Fascial Touch also gives access to holding patterns that, once recognized and acknowledged, can slow the speed of anxiety, the weight of depression and the immobility of trauma. Unwinding the fascial restrictions restores the essential movement of the being that dwells within the body.
These courses will enhance your massage practice and your own ability to hold space for your client’s process. Myofascial release is a gentle yet powerful way to engage the person’s own healing system and create lasting change.

Touch in to the wisdom of the body.

Use Massage Therapy Techniques to integrate the whole body.

Many Bodywork trainings only focus on a specific area. Of course this is important in your work but often hypertonicity or Fascial adhesions go far beyond one area of the body. This course was created to help practitioners find a more integrated approach and to give a wholistic framework to assess and work with the Anterior Thoracic region.

Incorporate both Massage and Myofascial techniques to highlight connectivity and create space for healing.

The Bodywide network of the Myofascial system is becoming more understood in its role as an ancient but still present communication system. Sometimes with trauma, we lose the connection to parts of our body. These 'forgotten' areas can then become dis-eased and cause many symptoms that impede our ability to feel pleasure or to relate to Self.

Leading Edge Myofascial Techniques

John F. Barnes describes the fascial system in this way “Fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider's web or a sweater. Fascia is very densely woven, covering and interpenetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein, as well as, all of our internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. The most interesting aspect of the fascial system is that it is not just a system of separate coverings. It is actually one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. In this way you can begin to see that each part of the entire body is connected to every other part by the fascia, like the yarn in a sweater.”
One can surmise then that this integral system of the body would play a crucial role in our experience of connectedness, intimacy and embodiment. Being a tissue that is everywhere in the body, fascia has a unique opportunity to help us create a somatic sense of self. Dialoguing with our own fascial system creates this connection with our innermost being in a way that allows us to heal, feel pleasure and experience intimacy.

What does it mean to ‘unwind’ your fascia?

Gabrielle Roth, the creator of 5 rhythms dance once said, “Just set people in motion and they will heal themselves.” This idea of movement as being a healing force in our body is not new. I believe many of the ancient systems of health and vitality, such as yoga or qigong, are based on this idea of sensing the inner movements the body wants to make and following that wisdom.

“Myofascial release is the three-dimensional application of sustained pressure and movement in the fascial system in order to eliminate fascial restrictions and facilitate the emergence of emotional patterns and belief systems that are no longer relevant or are impeding progress.” John F Barnes

Mindblown!

Hi Ailsa, i just wanted to share with you the continued astounding experiences that I, and clients have with the kind of touch/bodywork I learned with you.  It amazes me every time. A client today experienced what sounded/seemed/looked (and his debrief matched) like deep and profound love and connection, in a simple touch with no movement (in the way we practiced in your courses). He was moved. Energetic 'stuff' happened. Mind blown. Thank you.

Fascia related observation....

.I took first level massage for SSE course, last year.
And learned that when breasts hang uneven....different, it could/is be fascia.  This was me at the course.
I've been sporting a mostly bra-less life (in the face of a culture that would hold me solidly as someone who should wear a bra at all times due to breast size), and now, four months later, when I gaze down on myself, my breasts hang as mirrors of each other....whereas my right always looked bigger, was positioned differently, and associatef with discomfort, and rib cage pain.

Thank you Ailsa Keppie.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a payment plan option?

Payment plans can be arranged if necessary. Please contact Ailsa at ailsa@ailsakeppie.com to arrange one to suit you.

Will I get a certificate?

Ailsa will issue a pdf certificate of participation in the course which can be used to show you attended the course. This course is 12 hours of class time and can be used for CE credit for most bodywork modalities.

How do you allow for alternate learning styles?

The techniques offered in these courses are mostly hands on techniques although some adaptations can be made if people have differing comfort levels with giving or receiving touch. Many of the techniques can be done on your own body or on other areas of the body so that safety and comfort of both giver and receiver can be maintained. Ailsa offers mostly audio cues during the practice sessions, but adaptations can be made if someone prefers printed handouts or kinaesthetic exercises.
